2 days
The 2‑Day PAT Testing Course (City & Guilds 2377-77) delivers essential portable appliance testing training over two full days, ideal for professionals requiring certification without committing to the extended 3‑day course. The programme includes detailed electrical theory, practical inspection, testing techniques, and compliance with the IET Code of Practice (5th Edition).
Perfect for:
No prior PAT experience is required; a basic awareness of electrical hazards is beneficial
Day 1: Theory & Introduction
Day 2: Hands-on Training & Exams
Assessment for this course is conducted via an online, open-book multiple-choice examination, with a duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The exam comprises 50 questions and is based on the IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment – 5th Edition.
In addition to the written assessment, candidates must complete a practical assignment, which involves the inspection and testing of two electrical appliances. Delegates are also required to complete all relevant documentation accurately, demonstrating competence in both theoretical knowledge and practical application.
On success, delegates receive a City & Guilds 2377-77 Level 3 certificate, widely recognised across the UK. This qualification demonstrates competency for compliance with Health & Safety, Electricity at Work, and PUWER regulations, empowering delegates to perform PAT testing professionally
Candidates must be aged 18 or over. While City & Guilds does not specify formal entry requirements for this qualification, it is essential that learners possess a foundational understanding of electrical systems and the hazards associated with electricity to successfully complete the course.
It is expected that candidates will already have relevant industry experience or training. For example, individuals who hold an ECS card, a JIB electrician grade card, or have completed a Level 3 NVQ-based electrotechnical apprenticeship or technical certificate are likely to meet the necessary knowledge criteria.
Applicants without formal qualifications may still be accepted onto the course if they can demonstrate sufficient prior knowledge and practical experience. In such cases, Pragmatic Consulting will assess eligibility on a case-by-case basis to ensure learners have the potential to achieve the qualification.
Candidates without appropriate experience and understanding will need to sit the full 3-day PAT Testing course.
Please note: a minimum level of spoken and written English is required to complete this training and its assessments effectively.
Q: Who can do the 2-day PAT testing course?
A: Anyone over 18 with basic English skills; prior electrical experience is helpful but not mandatory.
Q: Is the PAT test legal requirement?
A: While not legally mandated, PAT testing helps comply with Health & Safety at Work and Electricity at Work regulations
Q: What is included in the practical assessment?
A: You’ll test various appliances using PAT equipment and complete documentation in line with the IET Code of Practice.
