NG Restoration of Motive Power (ROMP)

Course details

The Restoration of Motive Power (ROMP) course is a National Grid-approved training programme designed to equip Competent Persons (CPs) and engineers with the knowledge and procedures required to safely and efficiently restore motive power following a system fault or outage.

This course supports compliance with National Grid operational procedures and safety standards, ensuring that restoration is conducted under controlled and authorised conditions.

Course Content

• National Grid process for restoring motive power
• Restoration under Safety Rules and NSI procedures

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion, delegates will:

• Be certified to carry out restoration duties under ROMP scope

Prerequisites

In order to be eligible for National Grid ROMP (Restoration Of Motive Power), you will need to hold

• An NG Competent Person Substation and/or NG Competent Person OHL 
• And - 2 ROMP documents held under Personal Supervision of a ROMP authorised CP within last 12 months 
• (Other Utility Company equivalent documents may be evidenced)

If you have previously held ROMP within the last 2 years, then additional evidence is not normally required.

Course Format & Location

• Duration: Half day
• Format: Instructor-led with practical components
• Location: This National Grid training and assessment is only available at the following locations:-
  • Eakring, Nottinghamshire (Tues to Friday most weeks) 
  • Blackley, Manchester (Mon to Friday) 
  • Graveley, Hertfordshire (Mon to Thursday most weeks) 
  • Melksham, Wiltshire (1 week a month) 
  • Littlebrook, Kent (1 week a month) 
  • Langley Park, Durham (2 to 3 days a month)
