The National Grid NSI2 course provides practical and theoretical training on the safe application of drain earths in accordance with National Grid Safety Instruction 2 (NSI2). This course is essential for Competent Persons and authorised personnel working on high-voltage systems, ensuring they understand how to apply and remove drain earths safely, maintain situational awareness, and comply with NG safety protocols.

Delegates will gain both practical experience and theoretical knowledge to safely manage high-voltage circuits and support operational safety on National Grid sites.

The National Grid Authorisation Training can only be booked either directly with NG or through the live NG Booking Portal via an approved provider, such as ourselves.

Prerequisites

  • An NG Competent Person Substation certificate
  • And evidence of two occasions in the application and removal of Drain Earth(s) under Personal Supervision of an NSI 2 authorised
  • Competent Person within last 12 months
  • OR NSI 2 Practical Course delivered by the Academy

Drain Earth Application Procedures

  • Correct use of PPE for high-voltage operations

Risk Assessment & Site Safety

  • Identifying potential hazards and mitigation measures
