This NG Competent Person – Overhead Lines: Application of Drain Earths (No Access onto Conductors) course is designed for individuals designated as Competent Persons under National Grid Safety Rules. It specifically covers the correct and safe application of drain earths to overhead lines, where no physical access onto conductors is required.

This training is essential for personnel involved in maintaining or working near high-voltage overhead lines and is aligned with NSI2 (National Safety Instruction 2) standards.

Learning Outcomes

Prerequisites

In order to be eligible for National Grid Competent Person OHL, you will need to hold

• An NG Person Overhead Lines certificate
• And have evidence of 9 days on a National Grid Working Party Register with Safety Document Numbers
• Or have an existing NG Competent Person OHL

If you have previously held National Grid Competent Person within the last 2 years, then additional evidence is not normally required.

Course Format & Location

• Duration: 1 day
• Format: Instructor-led with practical components
• Location: This National Grid training and assessment is only available at the following locations:-
  • Eakring, Nottinghamshire (Tues to Friday most weeks) 
  • Blackley, Manchester (Mon to Friday) 
  • Graveley, Hertfordshire (Mon to Thursday most weeks) 
  • Melksham, Wiltshire (1 week a month) 
  • Littlebrook, Kent (1 week a month) 
  • Langley Park, Durham (2 to 3 days a month)
