EUSR SHEA Waste

This course blends the six core SHEA modules common across utilities with two specialist modules tailored to the waste and resource sector. The syllabus is aligned with the official EUSR scheme specification for waste.

Core Modules

1. Understanding Workplace Responsibilities
   – Legal frameworks and safety obligations
   – Individual and employer responsibilities
2. Environmental Awareness
   – Environmental protection and pollution prevention
   – Sustainable practices within power industry activities
3. Identifying & Controlling Risks
   – Hazard identification and risk management
   – Safe behaviours and proactive safety culture
4. Common Workplace Hazards
   – Physical hazards and associated control measures
   – Alignment with CSCS safety principles
5. Occupational Health Hazards
   – Health risks, exposure hazards and mitigation
   – Safe systems of work and PPE expectations
6. Responding to Emergencies
   – Emergency procedures and escalation
   – Reporting requirements, enforcement and safety responsibilities

Waste Industry Specific Modules

1. Introduction to the Waste Sector
   – Waste hierarchy, classification, processing, recycling facilities, landfill operations
2. Waste Collection: Drivers & Operatives
   – Safe practices for waste collection, vehicle operations, public interaction hazards

Training is delivered within the general context of the utilities industries, ensuring relevance regardless of sector.
