The training covers essential water hygiene principles, the importance of personal hygiene, contamination control, and safe working practices, while allowing participants to interact directly with trainers, ask questions in real time, and complete assessments under supervision. Delegates will gain a clear understanding of safe practices, personal hygiene, contamination prevention, and operational responsibilities for potable water systems.

Assessment

Each module includes a short multiple-choice quiz. Delegates must pass a 25-question online assessment at the end to qualify for the EUSR registration.

This trainer-led course is delivered through the context of the potable water industry and covers:

Water Hygiene Fundamentals

  • Understanding that water is a food product and the public expectation of safe, treated water
  • The importance of personal hygiene for all personnel
  • Awareness of potential contamination sources and how to control them

Safe Working Practices

  • Proper use of PPE, including clean boots and clothing
  • Vehicle and tool hygiene, including contamination risks from previous site visits
  • Multi-functional working risks where water and sewerage operations overlap
  • Fuel, diesel, chemical, and pet contamination risks

Chlorine & Disinfection

  • Correct use of chlorine for cleaning, disinfection, and repairs
  • Safe handling and disposal of chlorine solutions
  • Use of approved products and substances in potable water works

Site Procedures & Compliance

  • Understanding sampling and audit processes within the water industry
  • Awareness of regulatory requirements and best practice for water hygiene
  • Maintaining clean and safe working environments on-site

Health Assessment

  • Completion of an online health screening questionnaire prior to training
  • Declaration of recent illnesses (e.g., typhoid, hepatitis, persistent diarrhoea)
  • Medical clearance required if any conditions are present within the last 12 months

Assessment

  • Online interactive assessment at the end of the course
  • Successful candidates receive EUSR Blue Card registration, valid for 3 years
  • Duration: Half-day, live online session with interactive trainer guidance
