NCO1 Gas Assistant Course Overview

This five-day course covers the fundamental technical skills required for a Network Construction Assistant, including:​

• Safe practices: excavation, trenching, shoring, and utilities locating
• Tools, materials, and pipelaying techniques
• Excavation support & reinstatement procedures
• Team coordination and communication on work sites

Assessment, Certification and Progression

Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive the City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Network Construction Operations (Gas).

This qualification is recognised by the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) and is a prerequisite for obtaining NCO (Gas) Assistant registration. EUSR registration is essential for accessing construction sites and is affiliated with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), facilitating site access for service and mains laying activities. ​

Advancement opportunities are available upon gaining experience. Holders of the Level 1 qualification can progress to Level 2 qualifications, such as Service Layer or Main Layer, by completing additional training and assessments. ​
