The City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Network Construction Operations – NCO1 Gas Assistant introduces entry-level delegates to gas network construction and operational tasks within the public utility sector. This practical course focuses on pipelaying fundamentals, excavation, safe working practices, utility spotting, and effective teamwork in a live-gas environment.
This five-day course covers the fundamental technical skills required for a Network Construction Assistant, including:
Learners complete practical tasks, written questions, and on-site evidence.
Upon successful completion of the course, candidates will receive the City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Network Construction Operations (Gas).
This qualification is recognised by the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR) and is a prerequisite for obtaining NCO (Gas) Assistant registration. EUSR registration is essential for accessing construction sites and is affiliated with the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), facilitating site access for service and mains laying activities. 
Advancement opportunities are available upon gaining experience. Holders of the Level 1 qualification can progress to Level 2 qualifications, such as Service Layer or Main Layer, by completing additional training and assessments. 
No prior experience in the gas industry is required. However, candidates must obtain the EUSR Safety, Health, and Environmental Awareness (SHEA) Gas Passport before accessing construction sites.
