Course duration

One day

Course details

The CITB Site Environmental Awareness Scheme (SEATS) course will help you understand how environmental management issues on site and best practice techniques and legal compliance.

CITB SEATS (Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme) is a one-day course that focuses on construction sites environmental issues. The course is designed to meet the basic environmental knowledge that contractors and individuals need to prove to major contractors and clients.

CITB SEATS Course Details

This course covers the environmental aspects of the new HS&E touch screen test and will bring the candidates environmental and sustainability knowledge up to date by giving a thorough overview of the subject, relevant legislation, and industry best practice.

With this environmental awareness training knowledge, you will be able to identify, control and reduce your work’s environmental impact and protect the eco-system. Overall, you will be able to work in a sustainable and environmental conscious manner.

Who will the CITB Site Environmental Awareness Scheme (SEATS) course benefit?

The SEATS course is aimed at staff with managerial or supervisory responsibilities on a construction site, including site managers, site supervisors, site foreman, site agents and those with design or purchasing responsibilities.

Site managers and supervisors working in the construction, building and civil engineering industries will benefit immensely from this CITB SEATS environmental training. You will learn all the relevant information and legislation that affects the environment in your industry.

The course is to help construction supervisors to:

  • supervise and protect the environment through legal provisions.
  • protect the eco-system – the relationships and interactions between animals, plants (flora and fauna) and organisms and their environment.
  • follow environmental management systems and processes to mitigate environmental damage.
  • play their part in reducing statutory nuisance and disturbance to neighbours.
  • manage the impact that archaeology and heritage can have on construction.
  • control water consumption and reduce the impact construction has on natural water supplies.
  • implement control measures to prevent the pollution of watercourses.
  • identify ethically sourced timber though the chain-of-custody entering site.
  • identify, control, and manage contamination on brownfield sites.
  • classify, segregate, and properly dispose of waste.

Skills gained on the CITB Site Environmental Awareness Scheme

You gain a highly recognised qualification, which is valid for five years. To remain certified in this area, you will need to retake a course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

CITB SEATS Course Content

  • The significance and importance of the environment
  • A basic understanding of Environmental Management Systems
  • Site waste management
  • Prevention of pollution and water management
  • Use of energy and resources
